We are recruiting for a Culture as Care Coordinator-Youth Team Lead. This is a full-time position.

Wabano provides a holistic model of care for Indigenous youth and seeks an experienced front-line youth worker who would like to move to the next step in their career by coordinating culture, case management and health promotion. The Role

The Culture as Care Coordinator-Youth Team Lead will guide the youth team in their roles of culture, case management, and health promotion and be responsible for program targets and deadlines while also assuming a hands-on role in supporting youth 16-24 to transition from care of CAS or formal customary care.

To meet these responsibilities, the Culture as Care Coordinator-Youth Team Lead will:

  • Liaise with CAS in northern communities, Ottawa, and other organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, ROH;
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners such as CAS and group homes;
  • Coordinate and facilitate Indigenous integrated plans of care based on the model of care;
  • Conduct program evaluation and reporting;
  • Advocate for social justice and policy change;
  • Provide an integrated strength-based programming approach;
  • Plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate land-based programs;
  • Lead and support team members by completing team and individual work plans, meeting goals, reporting, and problem-solving;
  • Source consultants (e.g., Elders, traditional educators, facilitators), manage contracting of consultants for youth events planning and program delivery;
  • Provide orientation for staff and consultants;
  • Provide case management and systems navigation to eligible youth and manage referrals from Indigenous and mainstream organizations.

Qualifications

  • Masters or bachelor's degree in social work or other applicable human service program;
  • Clinical supervision experience preferred;
  • 3-5 years of experience in case management;
  • Experience with youth programming and effective communication with Indigenous youth;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous people’s history and challenges Indigenous youth face in contemporary society;
  • Demonstrated superior problem-solving ability with sound judgment, and strong oral, and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-risk youth and managing crisis situations;
  • Knowledge of available resources in Ottawa and ability to research the resources available in remote communities outside of Ottawa;
  • Knowledge of on- and off-reserve governance and structures;
  • Strong organizational and negotiating skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to work a flexible work week that may include non-traditional hours, evenings, and weekends.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000 per year plus benefits
