GeoNOVA is the provincial mapping program, providing geomatics solutions for departments and agencies across provincial government. GeoNOVA’s vision is to ensure geographic information supports the Government of Nova Scotia in achieving excellence in decision making and service delivery.

About Our Opportunity

We are looking to strengthen our team with the addition of a Geomatics Data Administrator. This role will have a huge impact in delivering exciting geomatics solutions to partners.

Primary Accountabilities

Geomatics Data Administrator responsibilities include:

  1. Lead geographic data architecture for the provincial Spatial Data Infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and storage of geographic data.
  2. Work closely with contributors and users, lead the design and development of enterprise geographic data models, including transactional and warehousing models ensuring optimal performance, integrity, and security.
  3. Manage Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes for geographic data, including regular testing of ETL scripts for data updates.
  4. Supervise a team of geomatics professionals.
  5. Process GIS data for distribution via various channels, including the Spatial Data Warehouse (SDW), data for web-applications, map services, Open Data, and downloadable distribution packages.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of six (6) years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable:

  1. Oracle database expertise with knowledge of geospatial data management.
  2. Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  3. Demonstrated experience with data workflows and Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes for geographic data.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot basic to complex problems, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  5. Knowledge of structured query language (SQL).
  6. Understanding of Geographic Information Systems (Esri), geographic data, and related principles.

Working Conditions

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.
  • Majority of time spent in an office environment.
  • Travel within communities across Nova Scotia may occasionally be required.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,107.16 - $3,649.33 Bi-Weekly
