About Our Opportunity

We are looking to strengthen our team with the addition of a Geomatics Systems Administrator.

Primary Accountabilities

The Systems Administrator’s main areas of focus are to:

  1. Administer the provincial Geographic Information System (GIS) software agreement.
  2. Provide access to approved versions of provincial Geographic Information System (GIS) software, working closely with geomatics management, other department representatives, and software vendors.
  3. Lead the administration and oversight of the provincial Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) used by geomatics professionals across government and by many external clients and partners.
  4. Ensure provincial SDI servers, network, software, and storage are available and accessible according to established service levels.
  5. Coordinate and implement installation, upgrades, and patches for provincial SDI software including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Portal, Geo Network, Geo ++, etc.
  6. Lead the technical architecture, standards, and best practices for the provincial SDI.
  7. Supervise and assign work to other professionals in a team setting.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of six (6) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  1. Understanding of Geographic Information Systems (Esri), geographic data, and related principles.
  2. Understanding of technical components of a Spatial Data Infrastructure including network, storage, relational database technology, and servers and how they integrate with Geographic Information System software.
  3. Understanding of Esri GIS software licensing including desktop, server, and cloud.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive and trusted partner relationships.
  5. Demonstrated experience installing ArcGIS Server/Enterprise in a production environment would be an asset.

Working Conditions

  1. Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  2. May be required to work overtime on occasion.
  3. Majority of time spent in an office environment.
  4. Travel within communities across Nova Scotia may occasionally be required.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,107.16 - $3,649.33 Bi-Weekly
