Job Description:

Department Overview:
TD's Global Physical Security (GPS), Crime Prevention Team supports the protection of organizational assets and human resources across all TD enterprise-wide locations, by implementing internal/external direction, advice, consulting on operational needs, and supporting TD's Physical Security programs.

Crime Prevention Specialist:

  1. Assist TD employees and business groups, in particular in the retail environment, to understand physical security and emergency response plans, and day-to-day GPS operations;
  2. Provide physical security teams with observational or anecdotal data;
  3. Provide guidance on physical security procedures and standards, on an ad hoc or scheduled basis;
  4. When appropriate, represent GPS at staff or public events, independently or attached to other GPS operational groups.

A Crime Prevention Specialist has frequent interaction with leadership representatives (at the Business Group level), peers within Physical Security and Investigative Services, Retail, ERE and Human Resources. This position may deal directly with persons in similar functions in external government, security, law enforcement and emergency services officials, industry peers, and general business security personnel at a similar level.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Responsibility for implementing plans, programs, procedures, and other support functions for GPS - be the field-level embodiment of GPS;
  2. Operate independently, but also as a team member of skilled physical security professionals;
  3. Visit TD locations through a schedule of pro-active outreach to enhance understanding and establish commitment to TD's physical security program;
  4. Support Physical Security colleagues by implementing and following procedures and programs;
  5. Submit detailed reports and logs to supervisors and other GPS management personnel, incident and document databases, etc.;
  6. Provide data for use in threat and risk assessments and physical security surveys;
  7. Observe and report on the performance of all contractors for security services and facility security systems;
  8. As assigned by GPS management, support, and assist in implementing security and emergency plans for special events, branch relocations, facility emergencies, etc.;
  9. As assigned, assist other GPS personnel by providing input into security consulting for site layout, security system specifications, and employee situations where a risk of workplace violence may exist;
  10. Develop and maintain effective liaison relationships with law enforcement and security agencies.

Job Requirements:

  1. Solid foundational knowledge of physical security principles and incident management.
  2. Analytical ability to gather, assess, and present data from a physical security perspective.
  3. Operational knowledge of provincial Fire and Building Codes.
  4. Good understanding of organizational priorities and relationships.
  5. Solid understanding of physical security systems (e.g. access control, CCTV, security lighting, etc.).
  6. Good written and verbal communication, presentation, organization, leadership and planning skills.
  7. Availability and capability to take on duties in crisis and emergency incidents.
  8. Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity and harassment in the workplace.
  9. Able to establish cooperative relationships, facilitating the reinforcement of physical security related policies.
  10. Self-starter, strategic thinker, negotiator and consensus builder, and able to prioritize concurrent tasks.
  11. Proficient computer skills.

Decision Making Authority:
As assigned, review invoices for accuracy, provide approval for requested services and provide recommendations for physical security and investigation services budgets.

Key Relationships:
Occasional interaction with senior executives in Corporate Office and all Business Groups. Close working relationship with peers in GSI, Retail, ERE, HR, CAPA, Legal and ATM Channel.

Unique Requirements:
Rotationally on call, and if so, on call 24/7. Ability to handle high-stress circumstances and fast-paced reaction times associated with crisis management and emergency response situations, including off-hours work assignments. Maintain a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle. Must be proficient in communicating in both in English & French.

Education & Experience:
University degree or college diploma in security management, risk management or business administration, or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security management, or equivalent acceptable to the Leader, GPS. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a corporate or government security department within an organization of comparable size and complexity to TD. Leadership experience beneficial to role or considered an asset.
