Position Summary
As a member of the Lambton County Library system, the Courier Driver / Maintenance Worker is responsible for delivering courier services to The Corporation of the County of Lambton. This includes the delivery and distribution of library materials, mail, furnishings, and other items. The Courier Driver / Maintenance Worker also performs light maintenance duties for preventative maintenance and during renovations, assisting in the delivery of a library service that meets the strategic direction set forth by senior management and Lambton County Council.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Courier Duties:
- Deliver mail, books, furniture, and other materials to library branches and County of Lambton facilities on a regularly scheduled basis.
- When required, deliver other items to identified locations such as lower-tier municipal offices.
- Sort large volumes of books from library exchanges.
- Secure cash and other valuables during deliveries.
- Load/unload and deliver mail and exchange of equipment and materials.
Maintenance:
- Perform light maintenance duties for library locations including minor repairs.
- Ensure the safe operation of fleet vehicles, including monitoring vehicle maintenance records.
- Participate in the renovation of workspaces including the removal/installation of shelving, workstations, furnishings, etc.
Customer Service / Communication Responsibilities:
- Represent the library effectively in the community.
- Interact pleasantly and courteously with the public, community partners, and staff, promoting a harmonious workplace.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that all consultants and contractors retained under contracts and agreements administered by the Department comply with the County's Contractor H&S policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
- Keep current with all requirements and provisions contained in the County's Health and Safety Policies. Participate in employee health and safety training activities as required.
General:
- Keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, ensuring implementation as prescribed.
- Possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

Credentials Required
Minimum Formal Education:
- Secondary school diploma with certification as a Utilities Systems Operator or Electrical Techniques.
Experience:
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience relevant to the scope of service associated with the position.
- Computer experience including Microsoft Office products, Outlook, Internet, etc.
- Possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.
Credentials:
- A valid Ontario driver's license and use of a vehicle.
- Satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
