POSITION TYPE: NR2 One year contract

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Counselling Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) counsellor working Monday-Friday (35 hrs/week) for a one-year term commencing 1st September 2025. This position will be situated at the KPU Richmond campus.

Shortlisting will occur the week of 12 May 2025 with anticipated interviews the following two weeks.

Partial remote working agreement is possible. Current practice in our department for fulltime is 60% on campus and 40% remote.

The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience, and knowledge:
  • Individual and group counselling;
  • Assessment and triage;
  • Treating a range of mental health/psychosocial/emotional concerns;
  • Trauma-informed practice;
  • Counselling young adults from a range of backgrounds;
  • Issues related to development across the lifespan;
  • 2SLGBTQIA+ awareness and clinical practice;
  • Cross-cultural clinical practice;
  • Crisis intervention and management, and suicide assessment;
  • Community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals;
  • Ethical issues as they relate to personal counselling in a university setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Counselling Psychology (MA/MEd) or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university;
  • Registration with the relevant professional body as required (BCCSW, BCPA) or certification with either the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) or the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC);
  • Five years of relevant counselling work/clinical practice and/or equivalent experience (such as a combination of clinical practice with adults, social work, addictions counselling, child and youth care).
  • Experience in successfully navigating and engaging with institutional systems, services, and support within a post-secondary institution is preferred.
  • Fluency in a locally spoken language in addition to English, including ASL, is an asset.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant counselling experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
