Cost Accountant

Job Summary

Optimum Staffing Solutions is an industry leader in providing reliable one-stop service of recruitment. Our services range from temporary staffing, temp to perm, and permanent recruitment. We are seeking a Cost Accountant for our reputable client's seafood plant, who will be critical in managing and analyzing the plant's cost structure. This role will involve tracking, analyzing, and reporting on costs related to production, materials, and labour to ensure profitability, operational efficiency, and financial accuracy. The ideal candidate will have experience in cost accounting within manufacturing environments, preferably with exposure to the food or seafood industry.

Duties

• Analyze production and operational costs to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, ensuring accurate tracking of expenses and cost allocations.
• Utilize accounting software.
• Prepare and review budgeting reports, comparing standard and actual costs to assist in financial planning.
• Collaborate with the payroll department to ensure accurate payroll processing.
• Analyze inventory, produce inventory reports, and pursue an increase in turnover.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CMA or CPA certification is a plus.
• French language (New Brunswick plant) - should be able to handle day-to-day conversations.
• 2-3 years of cost accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
• Ability to analyze financial data, perform variance analysis, and recommend actions.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
