This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of SIMS, 390 Brant Street, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
The Corporate Security Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing security and threat mitigation measures to ensure the safety and protection of staff, customers, and assets. This critical role involves developing and maintaining security policies and procedures, conducting risk/threat assessments, and coordinating security activities in compliance with regulations and best practice standards.
The City is looking for a strong security leader, with implementation experience, who is able to clearly articulate industry best practices to organizational leaders to obtain buy-in on corporate security measures and improvements, for the City’s multifaceted operations. This position is a highly collaborative role and will report to the Manager – Health, Safety and Wellness within Human Resources; however, the role will also have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Manager of Facility Operations (RCC – Community Services) and the Manager of Facility Assets (Public Works), to ensure operational efficiency in achieving objectives.
Responsibilities
Requirements
Post-secondary education in law and security, police foundations, loss prevention, facility management, occupational health and safety or a closely related field. Formal training in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is strongly preferred.
4-7 years’ experience in a role that coordinates facility or corporate security, ideally at a managerial level and involving many facilities, including managing on-site security guards. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, both written and orally and must have experience developing written security programs and organizational standards, based on best practices. Experience with security infrastructure, including surveillance, entry control, intrusion and fire and life safety systems (as well as general knowledge of other building systems – electrical, HVAC and lighting) is required.
Certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), through ASIS International, provincial certification as a Private Investigator and Project Management experience or certification (PMP) are considered assets. Knowledge and application of Six Sigma and DMAIC principles is also considered an asset.
This position will require travel between sites and/or City facilities and will require you to provide your own transportation to off-site locations.
Occasionally you will be required to work outside of core business hours.
