Job description

The Corporate Bookkeeper is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to maintain the accurate accounting operations of the company in order to provide dependable and timely financial reporting. The Bookkeeper is an essential part of the accounting and finance team and is looked upon to provide guidance and insight as to the day-to-day financial operations of the company and to be an assertive advocate for a professional and accountable work environment.

Location & Hours:

This role will be located in the Cranbrook office, located at 1600A Theatre Rd., Cranbrook, B.C. and will have regularly scheduled hours Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Bookkeeper reports to the Corporate Controller. There is the potential that overtime and/or occasional travel may be required but is not expected to be a major component of the role.

Responsibilities & Duties:

This role will be responsible for processing the day-to-day accounting transactions for MacKay Contracting Ltd. and its related companies. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Accounts Receivable processing
  2. Payroll, benefits, and RSP auditing
  3. Deposit / Expense Reporting
  4. Balancing subsidiary accounts to reconcile bank accounts
  5. Fact-checking accounting information
  6. Recording all transactions including:
    1. Loan and capital lease payments
    2. Payroll entries
    3. Vendor payments
  7. Maintaining accurate schedules for:
    1. Loans & Leases
    2. Prepaids
    3. Deferred revenue
    4. Revenue accruals
    5. Payroll accruals
  8. General office administration and support to the Controller
  9. Preparing financial reports by analyzing, collecting, and condensing account trends and information

Qualifications & Skills:

  1. An accounting diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of related work experience would help you succeed in this role
  2. Solid understanding of ASPE / IFRS and the basics of the Income Tax Act would be helpful
  3. Ability to work well within a team and take direction primarily over email or phone calls
  4. Working knowledge of accounting software programs such as Xero and Hubdoc or other equivalent financial systems would be an asset to get you on the ground running
  5. Solid knowledge and experience in Excel are necessary
