The Ministry has a permanent full-time opportunity for a Coordinator who can enhance the visitors’ experience. We are looking for an individual who is dynamic, highly motivated, flexible, customer service-oriented and a positive role model. This position will lead the planning and coordination of interpretive, educational and recreational programs and special events in the southwest park region, based out of Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
We seek exceptional candidates who can:
- Supervise seasonal park interpreters assigned to the region and provincially work as a supervisory team for park interpreters including recruiting, mentoring, training, scheduling, workflow management, conflict resolution and evaluation.
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the public programming strategic plan for Saskatchewan provincial parks that meets future needs, integrates new technologies and is responsive to resources.
- In consultation with the Manager of Visitor Experiences and Public Programming, plan, develop and coordinate interpretive, educational and recreational programs, special events and extension programs in the Southwest region using emerging interpretive theories and techniques and in compliance with Park Regulations.
- Coordinate and liaise with a network of staff to project manage with both internal and external stakeholders to research, develop and implement new visitor-based recreational and interpretive opportunities within Saskatchewan Provincial Parks, including Indigenous consultation.
- Ensure the development and delivery of interpretive services through the effective coordination of human and program resources within approved budgets, recognized interpretation standards and practices, to create memorable and educational experiences for park visitors.
- Work with central office to implement marketing and promotional initiatives that assist the region to achieve goals set out in the park plans and interpretive programming and event strategies.
- Analyze visitor use patterns and trends through evaluation and interpretation of visitor use statistics and apply that information to decision-making regarding appropriate methods of communication with visitors and the most effective types of visitor programs, equipment and locations.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the park management and central program branches on the development and revision of ministry policies and procedures.
- Regular travel to parks within the southwest region and outside of the region when required.
- Work as part of a provincial team of coordinators to support provincial programs and supervision including rotational weekend and evening on-call responsibilities.
You will possess knowledge and skill in:
- Knowledge of and experience with management and supervisory principles and practices.
- Leadership skills in order to develop, coach and support assigned staff and/or people under your direction.
- Marketing and social media experience (an asset).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are clear, concise and informative to various audiences in both written and verbal form.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- The ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Conflict resolution.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate (an asset).
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for a Coordinator would be obtained through an undergraduate degree in education, science, history, resource management or related with 2 years experience in a progressively responsible role.
