First Available to current Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education administrators who are currently members of PSAANS.
Second Available to all applicants who hold a valid Nova Scotia Teaching License, or are eligible for a Nova Scotia Teaching License.

The Coordinator of French Second Language (FSL) Programs and Support Programs is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of French programs including curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and support of schools and teachers through an inclusive and equity lens. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for other programs including Community Based Education, Music, and Physical Education.
The Coordinator is focused on maximizing student achievement with the ultimate goal of increasing the numbers of bilingual students in the regional centre. The Coordinator of French Second Language (FSL) Programs and Support Programs is under the direction of and is directly responsible to the Director of Programs and Student Services.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Valid Nova Scotia teacher’s license;
- Masters Degree in Education, or Administration/Leadership (or equivalent combination of education and experience);
- Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience;
- Five (5) years of experience in leadership/management positions requiring the supervision of staff;
- Knowledge of French first and second language and immersion programming with experience implementing FSL approaches and French Second Language special projects;
- Fluent in French (both the spoken and written word) and certified to provide OPI testing to measure French proficiency;
- Deep knowledge of French curriculum outcomes;
- Knowledge of French immersion sustainability issues within a fluctuating enrolment;
- Knowledge of best assessment and instructional practice;
- Training and experience in facilitating meetings to achieve appropriate action planning and programming that meets the well-being, physical health, mental health, social-emotional and educational needs of students;
- Proven leadership abilities and organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving ability;
- Superior ability to stimulate professional growth of staff, through effective professional development programs;
- Superior skills in budget management and in the supervision of teaching and other staff;
- Has a broad knowledge of and the ability to use current and appropriate technology in developing strong partnerships between the AVRCE and the Departments of Education and Early Childhood Development to support the implementation of programs designed to augment student well-being, physical health, mental health, social-emotional and educational success;
- Demonstrated discretion with proven ability to handle confidential matters.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Monitor programs and initiatives offered by the Regional Centre through the Public School Program in French programs at all levels;
- Coordinating French provincial curriculum implementation, professional development, evaluation, and maintenance, and oversee regional leadership implementation team;
- Promote quality education, efficient delivery of services through on-going contact with principals and teachers;
- Responsible for the expansion of French Second Language initiatives, coordinate French Special Projects;
- Develop positive public relations and communication for French Second Language programs through networking and liaising with community and advocacy groups as well as post-secondary institutions;
- Provide on-going support to French Second Language Teachers;
- Organize Regional-wide professional development initiatives and opportunities and provide support for site-based professional development opportunities;
- Collaborate with other Programs & Student Services Coordinators in program planning;
- Collaborate with other departments within the AVRCE regarding staff performance appraisal/growth plans and staff hiring processes as well as managing performance evaluations of staff;
- Collaborate with Human Resources lead on principal performance appraisal/growth plans;
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of students within the region's school;
- Provide leadership in policies, guidelines, procedures and evaluations for appropriate services and programming for students consistent with Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and regional Centre policies;
- Manage budget within assigned authority;
- Represent the Regional Centre on provincial or regional committees to develop and advance services and programming for students;
- Provide support, education and communicate in a timely manner to parents;
- Supervise curriculum consultants (Fine Arts, French and Active Healthy Living) as well as coordinate schedules of itinerant program teachers;
- Investigate issues of concern brought forth by principals, teachers, parents, and the community;
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs and Student Services.
