Empowerment Squared is looking for a Coordinator, Finance to join our Finance Division to support the division by performing various clerical and administrative tasks. This position involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, the Coordinator, Finance brings experience and knowledge of Canadian accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable:

  • Review and verify invoices and cheque requests.
  • Enter invoices into the system.
  • Prepare and process payments and cheque runs.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date.
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
  • Correspond with vendors and respond to inquiries.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Accounts Receivable:

  • Generate and send out invoices.
  • Carry out billing, collection and reporting activities according to specific deadlines.
  • Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Verify discrepancies and resolve clients’ billing issues.
  • Facilitate payment of invoices due by sending bill reminders and contacting clients.
  • Assist in reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Communicate with all internal departments and external vendors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Input financial data into accounting software accurately and timely.
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits.
  • Bank deposits as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or combination of comparable skills and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting role.
  • Strong computer skills including Google and Microsoft suite – emphasis on Excel.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks is a must.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Strong solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to problem-solve, adapt and pivot.
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality and demonstrate integrity, accountability, honesty, and transparency.
  • Proficiency in data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to exercise diplomacy, professionalism and good judgment.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is an asset.
  • Valid driver license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Hours:

Part Time, 2 days a week, 6 hours a day. This position is required to work in-person at the Empowerment Squared office in Hamilton, Ontario, and or in the community, as well as occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate program schedules. Travel may be required to attend meetings, conferences, and program events. All necessary precautions would be taken in accordance with health & safety guidelines.

Start Date:

Immediate (negotiable).

Compensation and Benefits:

$20.00 per hour - $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Salary will be based on education, experience, and competencies combined with organizational capacity.
