Job Description

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, organize, direct, and control the activities of the Hardware Engineering Department.
  2. Review project schedules on a timely basis.
  3. Assess workload, assign leads to engineering projects, and oversee the completion according to schedules.
  4. Conduct team lead and direct employee performance evaluations, recommend salary adjustments, and initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures for staff reporting to him/her.
  5. Establish resource requirements, skills, and organizational needs that will sustain adequate capacity and leadership within the department.
  6. Coach team members on A3s, RCCAs, cost-benefit analysis, and process development.
  7. Work closely with Engineering Team Leads to ensure resources are properly deployed.
  8. Develop & deploy Team KPIs (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Cost, and Employee Engagement).
  9. Provide engineering expertise for projects progressing through the manufacturing and system installation stages to overcome and correct problems and technical difficulties.
  10. Interview and select applicants for positions in the department.
  11. Provide subject matter expertise within agreed-upon timeframes to Sales and Applications in the quotation process.
  12. Maintain overall customer satisfaction by anticipating and preventing issues before they become customer concerns.
  13. Operate with key technical personnel at the customer site and influence subsequent buying decisions.
  14. Provide timely customer intelligence to Sales and Business Development.
  15. Deliver on the departmental initiatives prescribed by the Director.
  16. Recommend engineering team operating budget to the Director.
  17. Manage the team within the budget parameters and alert the Director of project variances within time frames that prevent budget over-runs.
  18. With the Director, collaborate on developing a departmental budget on an annual basis.
  19. Perform SWOT analysis on team performance as required by the Director.
  20. Execute six-sigma, lean, and continuous improvement projects.
  21. Support the business unit quality system by maintaining ISO procedures, conducting a departmental audit, and responding to NCR’s.
  22. Assess new technology to meet project requirements as authorized by the Director.
  23. Execute innovative programs to meet industry demand.
  24. Recommend and enforce design and engineering procedures and standard practices to comply with industry-specific regulatory requirements.
  25. Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment compliance.
  26. Hold team members accountable for health, safety, and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process.
  27. Ensure that training is provided to all departmental employees as per established in the training matrix.
  28. Implement appropriate corrective measures for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
  29. Ensure that appropriate equipment, materials, and protective devices are provided and maintained in safe condition.
  30. Provide information, instruction, and supervision to employees.
Qualifications

Education:

A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, or controls technology.

Experience:

Several years of experience in the design and implementation of complete control systems for industrial automation projects. This includes hands-on experience in programming and troubleshooting with current PLC hardware and programming software.
