Controls Developer (Vehicle Steering Controls)

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office (Markham / Oshawa) three days per week, at minimum.

We're seeking a talented Controls Engineering Specialist/Developer for designing and developing cutting-edge mechatronics embedded controls and diagnostics software. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, shaping the evolution of Steering and other vehicle motion control systems. What You Will Do

  1. Design, develop and implement control and diagnostic algorithms for vehicle chassis systems including steering system.
  2. Create and integrate software in MATLAB/Simulink and C.
  3. Develop Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) platforms for vehicle chassis systems using MATLAB/Simulink, and Carsim particularly for steering systems.
  4. Integrate MATLAB Simulink models, adhering to best modeling/software practices.
  5. Test and debug software using different platforms (models, MiL, SiL, HiL, and Integration testing).
  6. Define and create software interfaces to integrate new components into existing software.
  7. Define comprehensive test cases for unit, component, and integrated software testing.
  8. Execute model/code equivalency testing, identifying and resolving software issues.
  9. Collaborate with Systems Engineers to architect and define system level and controls requirements.
  10. Work closely with Scrum Manager, Scrum Leader, and a team of talented engineers in an Agile Scrum Team, utilizing continuous integration and deployment methodologies.
  11. Contribute to the team's knowledge base to retain and share common software errors, corner cases, and other learnings. Perform peer reviews of other designs.
  12. Travel to GM Canada and US Locations.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering or in a related field.
  2. Fundamental knowledge of controls theory, vehicle dynamics, estimation, signal processing, and software development processes.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience in embedded software development for automotive systems.
  4. Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and Carsim.
  5. Experience with reading, writing, and debugging source code in C/C++.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to manage time effectively, meet deliverable timing and thrive in an independent work environment.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration within a geographically dispersed team.
  9. Eligibility to work in Canada and possession of a valid Canadian driver’s license.

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  1. Master’s Degree in Controls Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.
  2. Extensive experience with Embedded Controls and Software for Automotive Control Modules.
  3. Experience with vehicle steering systems controls development.
  4. Familiarity with advanced testing methods and techniques, including Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
  5. In-depth understanding of hardware I/O level controllers and CAN/LIN communication protocols.
  6. Experience with ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/Vehicle Spy, or similar DAQ tools.
  7. Proficiency in Agile/Scrum development processes and tools.
