SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Manager to oversee and enhance the financial operations of our growing $15M manufacturing company located in North York, Ontario. This position offers a unique opportunity to grow alongside the company, with the potential to take on increased responsibilities. In this key role, you will report directly to the ownership team and play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting and finance functions including:

  • Month-end and year-end statement preparation,
  • Accounts receivable,
  • Accounts payable,
  • Payroll,
  • Budgeting,
  • Compliance,
  • Taxation,
  • Cross-border sales,
  • Cash flow,
  • ERP platform upgrades,
  • Optimization projects, and
  • Strategic decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Operations and Reporting

  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including accrual entries, general ledger reviews, and variance analysis.
  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Oversee treasury operations, cash flow monitoring, and credit reconciliations.
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial records and resolve variances.
  • Prepare financial statements for senior management.

Accounts Payable and Receivable Management

  • Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes, including vendor payments, invoicing, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Monitor collections to ensure timely invoicing and resolution of payment discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with vendors and customers to maintain positive relationships and optimize processes.

Budgeting, Financial Planning, and Cash Flow

  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with senior management.
  • Conduct weekly cash flow analyses to monitor liquidity and present optimization recommendations.
  • Provide variance analysis and identify opportunities for cost savings and financial efficiency.

Compliance and Audit Readiness

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
  • Oversee year-end closing processes and liaise with external auditors during audits.
  • Prepare and submit tax filings, audits, and other regulatory reports as required.

Process Improvement and Internal Controls

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud.
  • Stay current with financial regulations and industry best practices to maintain compliance.

Team Leadership

  • Help mentor and develop those involved in the finance and accounting process, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure timely and accurate completion of responsibilities.
  • Monitor the payroll function to ensure accurate, compliant bi-weekly processing and government remittances.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred; however, equivalent hands-on experience will be given equal consideration.
  • CPA designation or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in lead role.
  • Experience from a manufacturing or a similar industry is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or other ERP systems) and Microsoft Office 365 with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing financial processes.

Canadian Citizenship

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident with the legal authorization to work in Canada and the ongoing ability to maintain such authorization.
