Position Description: The Controller plays a critical role as a member of the Nine PBS finance team. The Controller supports the VP/CFO with managing the organization’s day-to-day finance functions, as well as the monthly closing process. The Controller must be a dynamic leader that partners with the CFO and the rest of the finance team to support the mission and strategic vision of the organization. This individual possesses a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making, and the ability to apply these skills toward strategic business objectives. This individual must also be a strong leader who can effectively support a team of 3 staff.

Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are vital to successfully meeting the expectations of this position in an effective and efficient manner. This is not an exhaustive list and areas of focus may fluctuate between the primary and secondary responsibilities, as needed.

1. Actively participate in the finance team to develop and support systems that ensure effective and accurate record keeping, timely preparation of reports and financial statements, and financial and administrative systems that support the needs of the organization.
2. Responsible for timely and accurate monthly financial closing of the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of all significant subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
3. Per Internal Control guidelines, review various functions including bi-weekly payroll journal entry preparation, insurance and pension allocations to project codes, and expense coding for payables and employee credit cards.
4. Manage fixed asset accounting requirements including depreciation schedules and asset retirements.
5. Respond to program directors and managers, including preparing analysis of program expenditures, reconciliation of donor tracking and accounting system data, and developing new and/or revised accounting protocols and procedures.
6. Oversee recording of monthly cash activity and prepare bank account reconciliations, including final review before posting to ledger.
7. Assist Impact team with preparation of grant proposal budgets and tracking.

Secondary Responsibilities: These are additional activities that are expected to be performed with this position.

1. Assist the VP/CFO with the annual budgeting process of the organization, including development of departmental budget worksheets.
2. Assist the VP/CFO with the preparation of government reporting as needed including CPB reports (AFR, SABS, & SAS), and IRS forms 1120, 990, and 990-T.
3. Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors, leading the annual audit process and preparing required audit schedules and analysis.
4. Assist with development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, including internal controls, and ensure organizational compliance with GAAP.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, with active CPA license and 5+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting or finance. Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS Office applications.

Hybrid Schedule: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, typically working up to three days virtually each week. Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends. Ability for some travel.
