Position Overview

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Contents Technician will work hand in hand with other members of the team under supervision, as well as individually in processing personal property (contents) in residential and commercial settings.

Job Duties

  1. Work under supervision in residential and commercial settings handling personal property (contents) as follows:
    1. Packing, loading & transport
    2. Disassembly and reassembly
    3. Mitigation services
    4. Dry and wet cleaning
    5. Inventorying and chain of custody
    6. Deodorization (ozone, foggers, etc.)
    7. Ambient air filtration
    8. Cleaning and laundering items
  2. Participate as directed in the following activities:
    1. Vehicle safety and maintenance inspections
    2. Maintaining vehicles in clean, serviceable condition
    3. Construction polyethylene enclosures
    4. Removing and disposing of debris
    5. Setting and maintaining equipment
  3. Participate in development of content scopes of work, including:
    1. Characterization of smoke particulate
    2. Test cleaning
    3. Cleaning methods
    4. Deodorization methods
  4. Identify salvageable versus non-salvageable contents
  5. Inventory photographing
  6. Provide excellent Customer Service
  7. Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines
  8. Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information
  9. Practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite
  10. Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of safety principles and practices; follow all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment
  11. Comply with all Belfor policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements
  12. Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may affect completion of the job to the appropriate person
  13. This role could be required to act as a “lead” periodically as designated by their manager
  14. Attend all Belfor sponsored training courses

Qualifications

  1. Working knowledge of restoration industry best contents practices including:
    1. Restoration following fire and water losses
    2. Degradation factors
    3. Decontamination
    4. Real, sentimental and historical evaluation
  2. Familiarity with chemical cleaning products including Safety Data Sheets
  3. IICRC certification (Fire and Smoke and/or Odour Control and/or Water Damage) preferred
  4. Recognition of common objects and materials
  5. Construction/Restoration/Insurance experience preferred
  6. Comprehensive understanding of customer service principles and practices
  7. Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per Belfor’s vehicle policy
  8. Ability to work within a team or independently as needed
  9. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  10. Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  11. Basic/Intermediate/Advanced computer and/or tablet/iPad experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and Google Suite
  12. Willing to work nights, on call and weekends when requested
  13. Periodic travel may be required
  14. Criminal Record Check

Physical Demands

  1. Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time)
  2. Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time)
  3. Access and mobility in tight spaces
  4. Fit Testing – half and full face mask as needed, annual certification required
  5. Working at Heights - over 5 feet, periodically
  6. Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling
