Salary: $72,819-$93,125
Type of Appointment: Continuing / Permanent
Normal Work Schedule: Full-time - 35 hours a week; Monday to Friday Regular Office Hours

PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the incumbent will generate compelling stories across all of Victoria University’s channels including web, e-newsletters, social media, and print publications.

With a focus on visual storytelling including video, photography, and graphic design, the Content Officer will take a digital-first approach to developing and creating content that celebrates the accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, librarians, and alumni. The Content Officer will write stories, video scripts, social media posts, and contribute to print publications while illuminating the narrative with compelling imagery and design. The role will also contribute visual assets to content created by other members of the Communications and Marketing Team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

University degree in Communications, Journalism, Video Production, Visual Design, Broadcasting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Four years of experience in the field of communications, journalism or videography.

Skills:

  • Digital camera skills for photography and videography
  • Video software (Adobe Premiere Pro)
  • Basic video, audio, and lighting equipment skills
  • Graphic design/desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva)
  • Story writing for web, social, and e-newsletters
  • Experience writing for and producing content for social media; familiarity with current social media trends
  • Microsoft Office and web content management systems
  • Creative film concepts, script writing, and storyboarding
  • Copywriting for visual assets

Other:

  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Time management skills (ability to multi-task to meet tight deadlines)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with short turnaround times
  • Demonstrated judgment and initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

DUTIES

Video:

  • Acts as “roaming reporter” capturing video for events, projects, and stories.
  • Conceives and creates video content that supports our brand.
  • Project manages the video production process from ideation, timeline, strategic messaging, script writing, filming, editing, and deployment.

Photography:

  • Acts as “roaming reporter” capturing photography in a photojournalism style for events, projects, and stories.
  • Creates visual assets with photography such as slideshows, social media content, and other digital products.
  • Develops innovative photography opportunities and branded campaigns.
  • Creates multimedia content to support written stories and social media posts.

Graphic Design:

  • Creates compelling visuals with graphics, text, and photography to support written stories and social media posts.
  • Designs printed collateral such as cards, posters, programs, and invitations.
  • Designs e-communications assets such as digital holiday cards with animation and graphics.

Content Creation:

  • Contributes to writing stories for web, e-newsletters, and other publications.
  • Drafts social media posts and visual content assets for social media channels for the Digital Content Communications Officer to deploy.
  • Develops Communications Plans for key university events and initiatives, such as orientation.

Other Duties:

  • Contributes to the Web Editors group to share existing content and propose new content ideas.
