The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safety Advisor with at least 5 years of experience in construction site safety management. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, monitoring the implementation of the General Contractor’s (GC) safety program, and conducting regular site inspections and audits. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to promoting a culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Compliance and Monitoring: Oversee the GC’s implementation of its safety program to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Monitor site activities to ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety procedures. Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, document findings and implement corrective measures.
- Training and Communication: Facilitate safety meetings and training sessions to promote awareness of workplace hazards and best practices. Provide guidance to workers, supervisors, and subcontractors on safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Ensure emergency preparedness, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and first-aid procedures.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection reports, incident logs, and training documentation. Prepare and present safety reports to management, highlighting trends, risks, and recommendations for improvement. Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety considerations into daily operations and project planning.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in field-level safety management within the construction industry.
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of construction safety regulations, OHSA standards, and site hazard controls.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience engaging stakeholders.
- Proven experience in monitoring and enforcing safety programs on active construction sites.
- Excellent knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and respond promptly to safety concerns.
- Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools is an asset.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
