Job description

Company Overview

Fibertel Communications, a leader in providing low-voltage building solutions including structured cabling, security, audiovisual, and mass notification systems, is seeking a highly experienced Construction Manager. While in-depth security knowledge is not required, senior-level construction management experience is essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong ability to navigate the construction process, particularly in coordinating with electrical contractors and general contractors. This role offers the opportunity to manage a variety of complex, integrated projects and will involve oversight of both traditional construction and security-focused projects.

Key Responsibilities

  2. Collaborate with internal technical experts for advanced security technology knowledge, while focusing on overall project management and construction coordination.
  3. Oversee partnerships with electrical contractors, general contractors, or direct customer stakeholders, ensuring seamless coordination and successful project execution.
  4. Support other Project Managers in their project delivery, using your experience to mentor and assist in solving challenges.
  5. Lead financial management of projects, including budgeting, cost estimation, job costing, and the application of cost codes.
  6. Demonstrate strong knowledge of accounting systems and how they relate to project management reports, including WIP, reconciliation, and financial performance tracking.
  7. Utilize tools such as over/under statements and job financial reconciliations for early identification of financial discrepancies.
  8. Regularly monitor job performance against budget and proactively implement corrective actions.

Bid and Tender Management

  1. Demonstrate the ability to thoroughly analyze and interpret complex bid specifications, ensuring clarity in the project’s scope, roles, and responsibilities outlined in the specification and drawing sets.
  2. Clearly define and understand what is and is not included in the project’s scope of work. Effectively communicate this to all stakeholders to avoid scope creep or misunderstanding.
  3. Expertly read and interpret detailed drawing sets and project specifications, ensuring a full understanding of the technical requirements and responsibilities for each party involved.
  4. Identify potential gaps or discrepancies in bid specifications and drawing sets, proactively addressing these issues with clients, general contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  5. Ensure that the project team and all external partners (GCs, electrical contractors, etc.) understand their roles and responsibilities as defined by the bid documents and specifications, minimizing the risk of contractual disputes.
  6. Actively contribute to bid proposals, ensuring that the technical and operational aspects of the projects are fully captured, and accurately priced in line with the scope and resources required.

Additional Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage the entire construction scheduling chain, ensuring alignment between customer expectations, manpower, and project timelines.
  2. Identify and resolve construction scope gaps, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and within budget.
  3. Work closely with the VP of Operations and other operations staff to continuously improve project management processes across Fibertel.
  4. Play a key role in mentoring and collaborating with Project Managers, helping them navigate challenges and improve project outcomes.
  5. Utilize CRM systems and project management tools to streamline project workflows, manage client communications, and improve overall project efficiency.
  6. Oversee security-focused projects, collaborating with technical teams to ensure projects meet both technical and operational requirements.
  7. Independently manage all communications related to the project, including written reports, verbal updates, and participation in boardroom discussions with stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Extensive experience in construction project management, especially on complex, multi-scope projects involving low-voltage systems.
  2. Proven ability to work closely with electrical contractors, general contractors, and other construction partners to ensure project success.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in understanding and managing complex bid specifications and drawing sets, including clearly defining project scope and roles.
  4. Strong understanding of project finances, including budget creation, WIP, job financials, reconciliation processes, and integration with accounting systems.
  5. Experience in the use of CRM systems to manage project workflows, client communication, and improve operational efficiency.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception to completion, coordinating multiple stakeholders, schedules, and internal resources.
  7. Experience supporting other Project Managers and contributing to the continuous improvement of project management processes.
  8. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present in both informal and formal settings.

Compensation and Benefits
