Job Summary

Reporting to the Track Foreman, the Track Laborer is responsible for successfully completing day-to-day tasks by meeting or exceeding corporate and project goals for safety, quality, profitability and schedule, resulting in extreme customer satisfaction.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Embrace our safety culture and adhere to industry and company policies and procedures.
  2. Repair and/or replace turnout components as needed, such as switch points, frogs, plates, etc.
  3. Repair and/or replace track components as needed, such as rail, ties, plates, spikes, timber crossings, etc.
  4. Observe conditions of track, track beds, and track right-of-way to detect, report, and repair problems or defects.
  5. Responsibly operate company vehicles and/or equipment and ensure all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed.
  6. Perform special duties as assigned by the Track Maintenance Foreman.
  7. Perform any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR Quality Management System.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of 3 years of experience in the Construction industry.
  2. Knowledge of all aspects of track maintenance.
  3. Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
  4. Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
  5. Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railway plans, and specifications.
  6. Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions.
  7. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Proficient use of computers, tablets, etc.
  10. Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

  1. Works outdoors at construction sites.
  2. Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds.
  3. Exposed to all weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
  4. Exposed to loud noise.
  5. Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
  6. Ability to work Days, Afternoons, and Nights.
  7. Travel Required.
