2ND STEP: $91,473.20 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports to the Manager, Downtown Revitalization, Coordinate and liaise with City’s departments, consultants, contractors, utility companies and other third parties who are performing and plan work in and near the active construction sites.
- Support consultant with management and coordination of downtown revitalization construction projects and other contracts in the field.
- Work closely with consultants and contractors to administer construction projects to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with the contract documents, and all relevant standards and legislation.
- Prepare daily documentation of construction activities, maintains accurate records of the project and construction activities to ensure contractor’s progress payments are verified.
- Record working days and incidents, monitor and review extra work by contractors and consultants.
- Liaise with consultant to inspect materials upon delivery to site to ensure that they meet standards and discards deficient materials as required.
- Check for adequate signage, traffic control, work procedures, safe access.
- Attend and participate in construction progress meeting with consultants and contractors.
- Coordinates scheduling of survey crews for construction layout, and liaise with City’s departments, utility companies and other third parties who are performing and plan work in and near the active construction sites.
- Attend/conduct on-site and other project related meetings with consultants, contractors, utility companies.
- Meet with senior staff regularly and provide updates on work progress and liaise with consultants and contractors to ensure that field test requirements are performed as well as routine quality control testing of materials during construction.
- Ensure that material testing is carried out and test results are received in time to take required action as per contract documents.
- Participate in end-of-construction and end-of-warranty periods deficiency inspections, notification of contractors, and follow up to ensure that all required deficiencies are rectified.
- Recognize and resolve construction related problems in the field, and conduct constructability reviews of design and contract documents, bid forms and quantity take-offs.
- Investigate and address complaints from the general public, property owners, councilors, and meeting with relevant parties and recommend corrective actions.
- Meet with the Downtown BIA and provide construction updates, while providing timely and relevant construction updates to senior staff.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
- High school (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of three to four years or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Over 2 years - up to and including 4 years.
REQUIRED LICENCE CERTIFICATION:
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation with OACETT is required.
- A valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s license.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of municipal infrastructure construction, roadworks, and utility coordination.
- Knowledge and understanding of granite paver and curb installations, including proper techniques for boulevard and adjacent building applications, would be an asset.
- Familiarity with the demands of a fast-paced municipal planning organization, and able to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a contributing member of a dynamic team.
