Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Civil Concrete Superintendent to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and a passion for building and construction. The Concrete Superintendent is accountable for all site safety requirements including contractor management. This position is responsible for overseeing all concrete work on site and ensuring that the physical work is completed within budget, on schedule and in accordance with the contract documents. The Concrete Superintendent is committed to minimizing the cost of the project through the efficient use of field staff, equipment, and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that projects are built according to approved plans and specifications.
  • Understand the scope and sequence of work, plan and prioritize the work effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Exceptional customer service is essential.
  • Mentor and lead all field staff to ensure development and crew strength to maintain growth.
  • Arrange for the various concrete testing required to ensure the integrity of the structure and report unusual findings to Project Manager.
  • Order concrete, rebar, pumps and other labour and material to complete projects.
  • Review, maintain and help create construction schedule.
  • Submit hourly timecards with all necessary details for job costing purposes.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Prepare field force accounts and change orders to be signed by project owner or representative when requested.
  • Maintain a daily log.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Working on the tools may be required for development and mentorship.
  • Long work hours are required during the construction season.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure that all work meets and exceeds industry standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety on-site.

Requirements/Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of civil, commercial, and residential concrete flatwork construction, reinforcing steel and formwork systems. 10-15 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of City of Calgary roads specifications.
  • Extensive knowledge with grading, prepping, forming and pouring of monolithic sidewalk, curb & gutter.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
  • Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of crews.
  • Monitor work performance and work with crews to overcome challenges.
  • Ensure work completed meets and exceeds industry quality standards.
  • A strong safety record.
  • The ability to respect and work within a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability, first in, last to leave.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $125,000.00-$175,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • Concrete Flatwork: 10 years (required)
  • Supervising role: 5 years (preferred)
