Position Summary:

NAC is seeking a skilled, highly motivated, people centric professional to join our head office Operations team, located in Morriston, ON, with travel to support our projects across Canada. The successful candidate will play a key role in NAC’s future success focusing on our self-perform concrete division.

The Concrete Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing productivity and efficiency with the construction projects undertaken by the NAC across Canada. This role involves analyzing cost codes and work hours as it relates to each of NAC’s active projects in a macro and project specific view. As the Concrete Manager, you will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of growth mindset and prioritizing people within our organization as it relates to the interactions with other operations and within the realm of civil.

Responsibilities

  • Proactive planning, monitoring and overseeing the construction, assembly, and integration of concrete related components and systems to ensure the successful completion of our projects.
  • Provide practical guidance and support to all applicable employees and contractors as it relates to the self-perform concrete division.
  • Mentor and empower concrete superintendents to proactively plan, forecast and provide them with the skills and tools needed to succeed while leveraging data-driven insights to optimize performance and decision-making.
  • Identify trends and inefficiencies in the field and provide insights and share strategies to optimize productivity and efficiency across various construction processes.
  • Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Promote a culture of continuous learning and development among concrete superintendents, encouraging them to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and continuously improve their skills and capabilities.
  • People-First Approach: Prioritize the well-being and professional growth of concrete superintendents by providing mentorship, coaching, and support tailored to their individual needs and aspirations.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve construction-related issues, conflicts, and challenges in a timely and efficient manner, implementing corrective actions as needed to ensure project success.
  • Practical Information Sharing: Share practical insights, best practices, and real-world examples with concrete superintendents to equip them with actionable strategies for overcoming challenges and achieving success in their roles.
  • Data Analysis and Decision-Making: Utilize data analysis techniques to gather insights into construction performance metrics, project outcomes, and operational efficiency. Make data-based decisions to optimize resource allocation, workflow processes, and project strategies.
  • Project Planning and Coordination: Oversee concrete superintendents, collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to develop and consult on: project estimates, construction plans and work packs, project schedules, and monitor productivity and on-site production as it relates to cost codes and meeting or beating budgeted trade hours for civil systems installation in wastewater treatment plants.
  • Concrete Construction and Constructability: Oversee concrete superintendents as they lead the installation and alignment of formwork and systems including, site construction, concrete, masonry, equipment etc., as per the engineered drawings and specifications.
  • Construction Supervision & Productivity Management: Mentor and oversee all civil trade superintendents, including oversight of construction activities to optimize productivity, minimize costs, and meet project deadlines.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of civil installations, conducting inspections and audits as necessary. Quality focus which includes ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Resource Management: Manage workforce resources, including: crew management (hiring, development and performance management of tradespeople, procuring materials, equipment and subcontractors, to optimize productivity, minimize costs and meet project deadlines) and forecasting project requirements.
  • HSE Leadership “Safety first mentality”: Ensuring awareness, compliance and enforcing safety protocols and procedures to promote a safe work environment and prevent incidents, injuries, and occupational hazards during construction activities. Mentor, teach and coach trade superintendents on relevant regulations, safety protocols, and industry standards, promoting a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare regular progress reports and updates for stakeholders.
  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and learning opportunities focused on key areas such as project management, communication skills, conflict resolution, and technical competencies relevant to trade superintendent roles.
  • Performance Monitoring and Feedback: Establish performance metrics and KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of trade superintendents. Provide regular feedback, performance evaluations, and constructive coaching to support their professional growth and development.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster strong collaboration and communication between trade superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of goals, priorities, and expectations.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Encourage innovation and creativity among trade superintendents, empowering them to identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and enhanced project delivery.
  • Resource Optimization: Optimize resource allocation, including labor, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficient utilization and minimize waste.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks that may impact construction productivity, such as delays, supply chain disruptions, or resource shortages.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate closely with project and head office teams, to align productivity objectives and communicate progress effectively.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of field related experience in civil construction and installation, with a focus on wastewater and water purification treatment plants or similar industrial facilities.
  • Civil trade certification or relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field is an asset.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of civil systems, equipment, and components used in wastewater treatment processes.
  • Experience in management, construction supervision, coaching and development of next generation concrete superintendents and tradespersons.
  • Familiarity with construction methods, techniques, and best practices in the field of civil construction.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership abilities, including the capacity to motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and drive project success.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Willingness to travel and work in various locations as required by project assignments.
  • Experience with construction management software and tools (e.g., Primavera, Procore, AutoCAD and Tekla) is an asset.
