You will be working with a team in our Community Access program. On this team you will be supporting a variety of individuals and could be working out in the community, in their homes, or in our main facility in the NE. Individuals you support may have diagnoses such as Addictions, FASD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, ODD, or other Mental Health conditions or developmental delays. You will follow the individualized support plans for each individual to help them work towards and achieve their goals. The individuals you work with may require personal care, lots of outdoor time, for you to drive and accompany them to medical appointments, or possibly assistance in their daily activities.

With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will…

  • Provide medical, technological, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
  • Attend medical/legal appointments with the Individuals
  • Administer daily documentation, medication of the Individual, and key worker duties
  • Assist Individuals in their daily chores and activities within the community or in the group home
  • Support safety and cleanliness of the Individual's living space
  • Complete tasks such as fire drills and hazard assessments
  • Communicate with OPG/Guardians/Family Members
  • Collaborate, advocate & research for the support Individual if necessary, such as hospitals if required
  • Provide specific support to the Individuals on an ODP (Opioid Dependency Program) or O.A.T
  • Drive to meet Individuals, or be able to transport them to activities or appointments throughout the day
  • Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand Individual needs and requirements.
  • Effectively complete required incident reports

About you:

You are someone who is dedicated to learning and researching about ongoing behaviors or concerns of the Individuals. As this group home facility is focused on Individuals with mental health and addiction, you have previous work or learning experience in Harm Reduction Philosophy & Trauma Informed Care Practices. You have an adequate knowledge about current mental health and addiction concerns and behaviors. You have previous experience or knowledge regarding biohazards or illicit substance use. You are willing to take training on Universal Precaution or Infection Prevention & Control and support the Individuals using PPE. You are ready to work in an environment that promotes the safe disposal of used needles or drug paraphernalia. You are willing to understand and learn the Individual's trauma history and collaborate with your team to come up with strategies to support them. You have excellent leadership skills and qualities, where you are not afraid to step-up in a crisis situation. You are someone who brings an adaptive, strong, and bold personality, as there will be Individuals who have verbally and physically aggressive tendencies.

This permanent 25-hour position will begin as soon as possible. The schedule will be Monday to Friday shift from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. This position will be suitable for an individual with an adaptive personality, as there will be a variety of tasks throughout the day. The starting pay rate for this position will be $21.19 with potential of getting a raise after the annual evaluation. After three months probationary period, you will be eligible for cost-shared health and dental benefits along with 5 flex days after the three months of employment. As driving is a requirement, we reimburse the mileage at $0.50/km.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate/Diploma in the Human Services or Disability sector (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Intermediate computer skills and MS Office proficiency.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle, with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by time of hire.
  • Comfortable supporting Individuals with diverse disabilities and complex diagnoses.

Preferred Requirements:

  • One-year relevant experience in the human services field and/or prior experience in a fast-paced day program/outreach is preferred.
  • Previous experience with trauma, addiction, harm reduction and substance use.
  • Previous work experience in a group home would be an asset.
  • Having a medical background - whether professional or academic.
