Under the direction of the Service Coordinator of the Regional Community Brain Injury Services (RCBIS), the Community Rehabilitation Counsellor (CRC) will be responsible for assessment and development of personal and community living skills for clients participating in the RCBIS programs. The purpose of all interventions will be facilitation of the program goals of improved quality of life, increased independence, and involvement in productive activity.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-year University degree or Community College Diploma in Human Studies
  • Experience working with clients with an acquired brain injury, preferred
  • Current First aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain
  • R.P. certification (Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Personnel: Registered Rehabilitation Professional), and NVCI certificates preferred

Position Responsibilities

  • Participates in an ongoing comprehensive assessment of clients' personal and community living skills, as part of a team, and according to roles identified by clients
  • Plans, implements and evaluates strategies to assist with the development of clients' personal and community living skills, in conjunction with the team and according to program guidelines. Personal and community living skills will include such areas as hygiene and safety, assistance with taking medications, care of environment, meal planning and preparation, planning and problem solving, academic skills, pre-vocational skills, money management, leisure and recreation, social skills, and brain injury education
  • Supports and reinforces vocational skills such as preparing for, securing and maintaining employment. Skills will be acquired mainly through community-based vocational programs
  • Documents all pertinent observations, plans, interventions, and evaluations according to RCBIS policy
  • Includes significant others of participant in programs through provision of program updates, educational material regarding brain injury and general support, in collaboration with other RCBIS team members
