Community Economic Coordinator

Department: HIAH Corp. Economic Development

Employment Status: Regular Full-time

Salary Range: CS-2 ($45,396.00 – $55,484.00)

HIAH Corp Economic Development is an independent body set up as a for-profit corporation. HIAH Corp was established in 2012 by the M’Chigeeng First Nation Chief and Council. HIAH Corp is a wholly owned and controlled entity of the M’Chigeeng First Nation given the mandate of the following economic development responsibilities:

  1. investment and ownership of business lines and economic projects
  2. operational governance of active projects
  3. providing staff resources to active projects
  4. management of expenditures and cash flow from economic projects
  5. facilitation of local business development

Reporting Relationship

The Community Economic Coordinator will work under the direction of the HIAH Manager.

Summary of Function

The Community Economic Coordinator is responsible for facilitating community development planning initiatives; identifying and fostering community development opportunities; securing funding for community development activities and programs; assisting local organizations, businesses, and individuals with establishing economic development plans and projects; maintaining and monitoring Local Business Registrations files and promoting the community to expand community economic development. The Community Economic Coordinator functions in accordance with the Vision and Mission statements of M’Chigeeng First Nation Economic Development and in accordance with all policies, procedures, and directives.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepares and implements a detailed workplan that strategically identifies priorities and activities that assist band membership accomplish their economic goals and objectives for local businesses
  2. Arranges for the coordination of entrepreneurship training and development for community local businesses through workshop organization and delivery of business sessions
  3. Arranges for business plan training and advisory services for local business entrepreneurs with a focus on local business development and promotion
  4. Assist and advise services for local business requiring assistance in identifying and accessing funding from funding sources in the economic development and other business sectors
  5. Develop linkages, networks and contacts with established and new businesses, local and external service providers and aspiring businesspeople and entrepreneurs from M’Chigeeng
  6. Develop and maintain business register/registrations, identify local business opportunities, and participate in revenue generating activities
  7. Exercise a high degree of independent judgment and action in development, interpreting and applying policies, and implementing initiatives
  8. Support the establishment new business ventures and existing businesses owned by MFN members
  9. Assists to prepare application submissions for funding for feasibility and business planning
  10. Provide business counseling support and entrepreneurship related activities
  11. Provides business support services by arranging and providing workshops and seminars designed to enhance and assist with business plans, market research and application for financing from third parties for M’Chigeeng local businesses
  12. Prepare reports and presentations on business development, projects and activities as required

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Post Secondary Diploma/Degree in business, community development or another related field
  2. Two to five years work experience working in collaborative community environment with experience in opportunity development and project coordination
  3. Experience working with in a First Nation, organizations, and community would be an asset
  4. Criminal Reference Check (CRC) Rationale: M’Chigeeng First Nation is in a position of trust to its band members and is committed to providing a safe and secure work environment. Applicants must have record clear and/or dated of convictions relating to fraud, drugs, assault, and theft. The CRC must be current (30 days) and must be an original.
