Job description

The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house and its clientele work on a system of gradual, supervised release while they reside at the facility. The CRF’s priority is to assist and empower parolees - while managing their risk - to integrate them into the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient and independent. Keeping in line with core philosophies of Hope, Service, Dignity and Stewardship of The Salvation Army and under the direction of the Program Manager, the Community Corrections Support Worker will act as a member of the CRF team, exchanging information with the case management team, assisting residents with their needs, and ensuring that the facility’s rounds, curfews, and check-ins are completed according to CRF policy.

Hours:
  • 37.5 per week
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
  • Must possess High School Completion Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Post secondary courses in criminology, sociology or related field an asset.
  • Clear TB Skin Test required.
  • Criminal record clearance through the BC Criminal Records Review Program required.
  • Security clearance through Correctional Services Canada required.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License an asset.
  • Valid WHMIS certificate an asset.
  • Completion of NHC mandatory, especially ARMATUS abuse training, required.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • Experience working with mental health issues an asset.
  • Experience using de-escalation techniques.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Must work co-operatively with others and complete assigned tasks to a satisfactory level.
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work with a diverse clientele possessing a range of needs and barriers.
  • Ability to discern baseline behaviors and any deviations concerning substance use or mental health.
  • Must possess adequate typing skills and be computer literate.
  • Must have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be confident in ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention skills.
  • Must be punctual, organized and able to adjust to operational demands.
  • Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural differences.
  • Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with organizational standards.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean driver's abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
