Description

The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house and its clientele work on a system of gradual, supervised release while they reside at the facility. The CRF’s priority is to assist and empower parolees - while managing their risk - to integrate them into the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient and independent. Keeping in line with core philosophies of Hope, Service, Dignity and Stewardship of The Salvation Army and under the direction of the Program Manager, Community Corrections Support Worker will act as a member of the CRF team, exchanging information to the case management team, assisting residents with their needs, and ensuring that the facility’s rounds, curfews, and check-ins are completed according to CRF policy.

37.5 per week


Key Responsibilities

  1. Must develop an intimate working knowledge of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Statement of Work, CRF Policy and Procedure manual, and in-house CRF rules, with all actions based on strict adherence to policy.
  2. Maintaining the confidentiality of all CRF and Nanaimo New Hope clientele.
  3. Receives all clients and residents in a professional manner.
  4. Monitors access to and security of the facility.
  5. Maintains a calm and secure atmosphere in the residence through a quiet, unobtrusive approach.
  6. Conducts regular rounds of the CRF/NHC as described in the CRF guidelines and policies.
  7. Conducts CRF bed checks as per CRF guidelines and policies.
  8. Conducts and monitors the sign in and out sheets belonging to each CRF resident.
  9. Records pertinent information in the CRF duty log.
  10. Communicates with Parole, National Monitoring Centre (NMC), and Police as necessary and documents situations and incidents.
  11. Enforces CRF in-house rules and parole conditions, according to the Policy and Procedures manual and the Statement of Work.
  12. Properly files all CRF/CSC documents in accordance with Policy.
  13. Maintaining an accurate medication access log, including the client's name, date and time of access, and client and staff initials.
  14. Records observed maintenance needs in accordance with the ARC.
  15. Ensures that the Intake office is clean and organized to ARC standards.
  16. Attends all CRF staff meetings, seminars, and training as directed.
  17. Performs light janitorial duties when required (i.e., room pack outs/cleaning).
  18. May be required to assist in the collection of CSC urinalysis program.
  19. May be assigned other related duties according to operational needs.
  20. Must be prepared to participate in upgrading/training at the discretion of CRF Management.

Working Conditions

Direct interaction with (high risk) offenders in a controlled environment.


Qualifications And Education Requirements

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

  1. Must possess High School Completion Diploma or its equivalent.
  2. Post secondary courses in criminology, sociology or related field an asset.
  3. Clear TB Skin Test required.
  4. Criminal record clearance through the BC Criminal Records Review Program required.
  5. Security clearance through Correctional Services Canada required.
  6. Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent an asset.
  7. Valid Class 5 Driver's License an asset.
  8. Valid WHIMS certificate an asset.
  9. Completion of NHC mandatory, especially ARMATUS abuse training, required.

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  1. Experience working with mental health issues an asset.
  2. Experience using de-escalation techniques.

  9. Ability to discern baseline behaviors and any deviations concerning substance use or mental health.
  10. Must possess adequate typing skills and be computer literate.
  11. Must have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Must be confident in ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention skills.
  13. Must be punctual, organized and able to adjust to operational demands.
  14. Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural needs.
  15. Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with professional standards.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  1. Background check consent.
  2. A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  3. A clean drivers abstract.
  4. Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
