Strides Toronto is amulti-service agency providing a wide range of exceptional programs and services that improve the mental, social and physical health of infants, children and youth from the pre-natal stage to age 29, and their families. With a range of community, residential and treatment services, we build strength and resilience through equitable, accessible, client-driven services, system leadership and advocacy. We provide individual, group and family interventions that include mental health counselling, autism services, education, outreach and referral, early intervention, day treatment and community support. In its Lead Agency role, Strides Toronto collaborates with 24 publicly funded infant, child and youth mental health (ICYMH) core service providers to design and implement system-level improvements that promote access, responsive service delivery and experience, and positive mental health outcomes for young people and families across Toronto's diverse communities. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Child Therapist (Community Services) provides consultation and psychoeducational child-focused interventions for children and families at risk of emotional and behavioural disturbances.

The goal is to increase knowledge and skills and improve social and emotional resilience. The services are delivered within a one-to-one, group and/or “team” context. Services take place at schools and other community settings.

Salary range: $58,001 to $67,543 per annum

This is a full-time contract position for 14 months.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Facilitate educational groups (multiple sessions) and workshops (typically single session) to fulfill commitments to both the community and various funding contracts. All programs aim to promote optimum social emotional development in children aged 0-12 and strengthen the relationships between children and those who are providing their care.
• Plan and create, based on current best practices and evidence-informed knowledge, new educational groups and workshops for parents and caregivers, children, teachers, and other professionals who work with children, for the purpose of increasing their knowledge base, and enhancement of skills to promote optimal growth of social emotional development in children 0 -12 years of age.
• Represent the organization at a variety of public events as requested by formal and informal community partners.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and other community partners to deliver, coordinate and integrate services. This may also include our own organization’s colleagues who reach out to them for community information or to inquire about programs that we are offering in a particular area of the community that may be helpful for their clients.
• Maintain up to date and accurate completion of data input necessary for Organization information systems, as well as those pertinent to external responsibilities including student placement supervision.

THE “MUST HAVES”

The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:

• Child and Youth Worker College Diploma or University Degree or Early Childhood Education, Child Development Diploma or University Degree.
• Experience providing community-based services.
• Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
• An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
• Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:

• Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
• Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
