Under the general direction of the Program Manager/Clinical Program Coordinating Supervisor and the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, the Communicative Disorders Assistant carries out treatment programs with assigned patients. As a member of the Speech Language Pathology Practice group, the Communicative Disorders Assistant participates in discipline specific and inter-professional activities that are directed towards a client-centred environment and that contribute to operational efficiency, program and professional development.
Skills And Qualifications Required
Completion of the Communicative Disorders Assistant program
Demonstrated training, skills and education in rehabilitating clients in the areas of communication and cognition
Experience working with adults with acquired neurogenic disorders is an asset
Position Responsibilities
Conducts speech-language or hearing screenings (without interpretation) following specified screening protocols developed by the supervising therapist
Delivers treatment and/or remediation programs to clients selected by the supervising therapist
Follows documented treatment protocols developed by supervising therapist
Assists therapist during the assessment of clients
Completes client documentation under the supervision of a speech language pathologist
Ensures the comfort and safety of clients
Assists in the maintenance and housekeeping of the treatment areas
Schedules/organizes group and/or individual appointments as appropriate
Participates in day to day decision making and solution finding
Participates in committees as required
