Position Summary

The Communications Specialist supports the institution’s internationalization strategy with a specific focus on the international student recruitment goals of the Office of Global Engagement (OGE). This position reports to the Manager, International Enrollment and Recruitment. The Communication Specialist has primary responsibility for international marketing and recruitment and coordinates and maintains OGE communication strategy as it pertains to international student recruitment.

Duties & Responsibilities

General

  1. Promote and maintain the image, mission and professionalism of the College and the OGE through effective support, and communications with our international applicants, recruitment partners, regional representatives and other external stakeholders.
  2. Liaise and provide clear communication with internal clients in NIC divisions, departments, faculty, staff and students as well as liaise and communicate with prospective applicants, external contacts and representatives from other post-secondary institutions, recruitment partners, regional representatives, external organizations, and the general public about international student programs and educational information at NIC.
  3. Work with the OGE team in planning, developing and implementing operational goals and objectives.
  4. Provide excellent customer service experience to stakeholders from diverse cultures.
  5. Meet international deadlines, ability to be flexible and prioritize competing demands and support OGE team.
  6. Perform other related duties similar in scope and complexity, as assigned by the MIEAR.

Marketing, Communications and Recruitment

  1. Update and maintain the OGE website for relevance and accuracy; liaise with other college areas as necessary.
  2. Under direction of the MIEAR and in conjunction with the NIC marketing team, design, produce and publish social media posts and maintain positive presence on various appropriate social media platforms (ex. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
  3. Under direction of the MIEAR and in conjunction with the NIC marketing team, coordinate design, production and distribution of digital and physical marketing material such as international view book, program-specific or language-specific flyers, banners, and displays.
  4. Coordinate a student group to support recruitment social media channels and create and schedule of appropriate social media posts for publication.
  5. Coordinate development of ads based on audience and target message, ensuring timely delivery of material. Monitor results of advertising campaigns, providing feedback and assessment on return of investment to MIEAR.
  6. Research, write, edit and distribute NIC institutional profiles and presentations as requested by event organizers and recruitment partners and ensure accuracy, currency and relevance of content.
  7. Review, recommend and develop appropriate strategies for print and social media, in order to promote social events, internal and external information sessions and special interest events.
  8. Maintain and provide statistics, institutional and community information and communications resources for NIC/OGE employees and regional representatives regarding marketing, recruitment and promotional activity.
  9. Prioritize and provide timely, informative, accurate responses to a large volume of general recruitment inquiries for prospective applicants.
  10. Coordinate international and domestic event registration, logistics, invoicing, reconciliation.
  11. Produce technical reporting based on internal and external enrollment data utilizing MS Office Suite and other platforms as required.
  12. Participate in international student recruitment activities as required. This may include on-campus or off-campus events and could involve international travel.

Recruitment Partner Relations

  1. Accurately maintain recruitment partner information and the recruitment partner data on the institutional database system.
  2. Administer and maintain recruitment partner marketing material, recruitment partner information and agreement processes, as directed by the MIEAR.
  3. Produce technical reports on recruitment agreement applications and overall recruitment partner performance.
  4. Coordinate delivery of marketing materials worldwide for recruitment partners and OGE recruiting.
  5. Provide timely, informative, accurate responses to general inquiries from recruitment partners.
  6. Coordinate international and domestic event registration, logistics, invoicing, and reconciliation.

Required Education & Experience

  1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, communication or similar.
  2. Demonstrated coursework/experience in communications, intercultural communication/interpersonal communication, international studies/business, and marketing.
  3. Minimum of three years’ experience related to business communications or digital marketing is preferred.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  1. Exceptional communication, both written and verbal, with a focus on strong and effective writing and editing skills in English.
  2. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and demonstrate commitment and ability to independently solve problems and work collaboratively within a physical and virtual team environment while developing and maintaining service standards and procedures.
  3. Must possess knowledge, experience, understanding and sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment.
  4. Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  5. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.
  6. Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal communication skills to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities while maintaining attention to details.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked team environment.
  8. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures related to the College policy.
  9. Intermediate level of proficiency in the MS Office suite of programs and a good working knowledge of databases, web design and social media platforms, combined with the ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.
  10. Strong skills focused on liaising with various stakeholders and bringing a project together in a coordinated fashion. Proficiency in project management apps preferred.
  11. Ability to work in a language other than English preferred.
  12. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
