Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is actively seeking applicants for a Communications Officer position. The Communications Officer operates the Hospital's telephone switchboard and paging systems; monitors alarms and responds to hospital codes; and registers, discharges, and transfers patients in the electronic patient record in accordance with the Hospital's policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the Hospital's Communications System, which will include the Switchboard Telephone and Paging systems.
- Monitor hospital alarms and page all hospital codes (i.e., code Blue, cardiac arrest) in accordance with the emergency response code procedures.
- Complete Response Logs to all Codes, alarms, and drills.
- Monitor the Security Camera Monitor.
- Testing portable radios for housekeeping rounds.
- Reset Citrix passwords for Tillsonburg Hospital team members.
- Sign out hospital keys, visitor badges, and panic alarms to team members/visitors.
- Accept payments for Tillsonburg Hospital and issue receipts.
- Register, discharge, and transfer patient visits in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures.
- Notify the Funeral Homes for the release of a body and ensure completion of Death Reports.
- Assist other service areas of the hospital with Clerical support (i.e., Health Records, and Emergency).
- Responsible for a variety of forms, logs, and reports.
- Provide courteous and helpful responses to patient and public inquiries.
- Support quality and process improvements initiatives.
- Ensure patient safety and infection prevention and control relating to position.
- Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator Patient Registration & Communications.
Qualifications:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent that is acceptable to the Hospital.
- Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent program that is acceptable to the Hospital and includes Medical Terminology and Microsoft Office education.
- Strong computer skills specifically in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and customer service experience.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative and self-direction with the ability to work with minimal supervision and contribute to a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to own professional development and continuing education.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis and be available to work all shifts.
- Collaborates with other team members.
- Is knowledgeable of the roles of other team members and recognizes their contributions.
Other pertinent conditions:
- Salary per the UNIFOR collective agreement ($27.57 per hour to $28.02 per hour).
