Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Marketing, you’ll be part of a small but dedicated team of communicators. From administering our internal communications strategy to leading employee engagement initiatives and coordinating internal and external events, you'll play a key role in fostering our vibrant workplace culture and organizational reputation. This is a permanent, full-time position.
What You'll Do
Internal Communications & Employee Engagement
- Develop and manage The Alex’s internal communications strategy, ensuring our mission, vision, and values are communicated in engaging and meaningful ways.
- Keep employees informed and motivated through multiple channels, including our intranet (gALEXy), email and newsletters.
- Oversee and maintain our internal content calendar, ensuring timely updates and relevant content for our team.
- Lead the audit and overhaul of gALEXy, our staff intranet—an exciting, high-impact project for 2025!
- Organize engaging employee events, including Town Halls and internal celebrations.
- Work closely with the HR team to enhance employee recognition programs, develop innovative onboarding strategies, and implement engagement survey initiatives.
- Serve as the employee representative on the Wellness and JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) committees, ensuring staff voices are heard and included in key initiatives.
Event Management & Community Stewardship
- Plan and execute employee engagement events that foster connection and enjoyment in the workplace.
- Coordinate The Alex’s involvement in external events (e.g., Calgary Pride Parade) to amplify our community presence.
- Support department led events for stakeholders, speaking engagements and trade show participation.
- Work alongside various teams to ensure seamless event logistics, communications, and branding.
Creative & Design Support
- Create engaging visuals and promotional materials using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Capture compelling stories through videography and photography.
- Maintain and update the intranet using SharePoint and Office 365.
- While this role has its own portfolio, you'll also collaborate with the broader communications team to support social media, poster & pamphlet design, and other storytelling initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring
- A diploma or degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, PR, event coordination, or a similar role.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to tailor different voices to suit various communication materials.
- High functioning knowledge of MS Teams, SharePoint, Office 365, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong design skills (Canva, Adobe) and experience with photography and videography.
- Strong project management skills—you can juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- A keen eye for employee engagement and culture-building initiatives.
- Experience with website management is an asset.
- A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
- A reliable source of transportation; some travel is required for events and meetings at satellite sites.
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.
Work Environment And Hours
- The Alex Community Health Centre: 2840-2 Ave SE, Calgary, AB.
- 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week)
- Standard hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekends will be required and flexibility in schedule may be available.
- Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up or down stairwells).
- Occasional physical action requiring the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 lbs.) throughout shift.
- Occasional travel within Calgary city limits is required.
