About the Role
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator contributes to the reputation of SFU through promotion of university priorities initiatives and activities on media and digital platforms. The Coordinator writes and develops media releases, SFU News stories, manages media requests for faculty experts, provides media training and supports faculty with sharing research and innovation progress at SFU. The Coordinator provides content and media expertise while working as part of SFU’s central Communications & Marketing team, in collaboration with other departments and faculties, to help craft and amplify institutional news through media, online stories, video and social media.
The ideal candidate will have excellent storytelling, writing and editing skills and strong knowledge of the media landscape, along with communications principles and practices. They can translate complex and challenging research into compelling stories and set faculty experts up for media success. Through trusted relationships with journalists, they can get stories into traditional and emerging local, national and international media markets. They can manage multiple tasks on tight deadlines and show creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Finally, they will have familiarity with social media platforms, proficiency with digital channels, such as web CMS, and are able to work collaboratively and independently.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field and three years of professionalexperience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
