JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Commodity Trader.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Trading, this position is responsible for managing the commodity purchase and sales of natural gas and emission reduction credits.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Negotiate and execute purchase and sale agreements for natural gas, coal, and emission credits, ensuring optimal market outcomes.
- Interpret market indicators and analyze trends in electricity, gas, crude oil, and emission credit markets across Canada and the USA to identify and capitalize on trading opportunities.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and industry stakeholders to enhance market presence.
- Ensure all transactions comply with transportation contracts and adhere to established risk management policies.
- Develop forward pricing strategies and maintain robust market intelligence to support trading decisions and optimize results.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, or business administration.
- 8-10 years of experience in energy trading, including natural gas and emission credits.
- Strong knowledge of risk management principles and trading platforms.
- Familiarity with Bulk Electricity System operations and generation station characteristics.
- Proficient in negotiation and intelligence gathering within energy markets.
