We are excited to announce that Island Health's Department of Laboratory Medicine is offering an employer-sponsored education opportunity to join our team. The Combined Laboratory X-Ray Technologist (CLXT) training is a paid training program for existing employees in Island Health wishing to advance their education and begin an exciting new career within Laboratory Services.
Please Note: the wages reflected on this Expression of Interest are representative of post-graduate rates for the CLXT position and would commence upon completion of the program.
Here's what you need to know:
- Two (2) Successful participants will be given the opportunity to temporarily relocate to Edmonton, Alberta to attend the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in September 2025.
- Participants will be placed on a paid weekly stipend and unpaid educational leave for the duration of the CLXT training program. Participants must successfully complete the NAIT program within the allotted 2 year period.
- This program is full time employer paid. All tuition, fees, and costs of necessary books are paid for on behalf of the participants and they are also eligible for relocation allowance. Students enrolled in the program will also receive a weekly stipend.
- Program length will be 38 weeks of lecture and labs at the NAIT campus, with a 40 week practicum at one of the listed Island Health locations.
- Available to all existing Island Health employees and external applicants.
- Successful participants are required to complete a two (2) year return of service as a CLXT with Island Health at one of the listed locations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience
In order to be eligible for this opportunity you must meet the following entry requirement, prior to submitting an application.
- 63% or higher in:
- Grade 12 Language Arts (English 30-2)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (Math 30-2)
- Grade 12 Biology (Biology 30)
- Grade 12 Chemistry (Chemistry 30)
- Proof of English Language Proficiency
- Applicants must also have the following pre-requisite post-secondary courses completed within the past five (5) years:
- Medical Terminology: Completion of NAIT ITMS100 - Medical Terminology with a minimum final grade of 60%. Post-secondary Medical Terminology courses that are 1 or more credits and completed within 5 years of the application deadline with a final grade of 60% or greater may be considered for equivalency.
- Human Anatomy and Physiology: Completion of NAIT ANPH100 Anatomy and Physiology with a minimum final grade of 60%. Post-secondary Human Anatomy and Physiology courses that are 3 or more credits and completed within 5 years of the application deadline with a final grade of 60% or greater may be considered for equivalency.
