Are you an emergency management student looking to gain experience in the field? The City of Mississauga’s Office of Emergency Management is hiring an Emergency Management Summer Student. This position will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the City’s emergency management program, including activities throughout the emergency management cycle: prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This is a full-time position with an employment period from May to August 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting all legislatively required aspects of the City’s Emergency Management Program, as outlined in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and Ontario Regulation 380/04.
  • Researching risks and vulnerabilities within the City of Mississauga.
  • Developing and implementing emergency preparedness public education and community engagement.
  • Developing and delivering emergency training and exercises.
  • Researching and developing emergency plans.
  • Collaborating with internal City of Mississauga employees and external partners on various emergency management initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution as a full-time student and returning to full-time studies in September 2025.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • May require bending, lifting objects (up to 40 pounds), walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to work at a variety of locations.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53
Hours of Work: 35
