CNC Machine Operator

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for the operation of the CNC machine. He/she will report directly to the supervisor on all matters. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Education

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Technology is preferred.

Years of Experience

  • 1 Year + of CNC machine operating/programmer is considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • On-site work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require knowledge of and adherence to basic safety procedures and precautions.
  • Work environment requires having construction safety footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Have a high level of social interaction. Work with other technicians, programmers, and general labourers.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read blueprints and recognize symbols and specifications.
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to write and communicate in English clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of processes and practices of machining and familiarity with automated machinery required.
  • Demonstrate State's core values and work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge in the use of precision measuring instruments (verniers).

Job Specific Duties

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering plans to develop and design projects.
  • Act as a shift supervisor.
  • Responsible for loading, running, and modifying existing CNC programs.
  • Responsible for completing "first off" inspection per component drawings.
  • Responsible for ensuring identification process for components of manufacturing process documentation.
  • Responsible for closing the plant at the end of the shift.
  • Responsible for supervision of junior staff (machine helpers).
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment, general housekeeping, and determining if repairs or new equipment is needed.
  • Work independently and requires little supervision.
