Cloud Engineer - Ruby, Puppet

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid (Downtown, Toronto)

Duration: 10 months (Possibility for an extension, or conversion to full time employee)

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Cloud Engineer - Ruby, Puppet to operate within the Cloud Engineering team responsible for creating platform components and services for the broad enterprise use. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in Role:

1. Design, implement, and refactor code
2. Participate in design discussions focused on scalability, design, and implementation best practices
3. Ensure software, programs, and applications are developed and/or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements
4. Work with other engineers on designing solutions and breaking-down, scoping, and estimating tasks
5. Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attending stand-ups, etc.
6. Be able to build and operate scalable software and infrastructure

Must-Have Skills:

1. 5+ years’ relevant work experience, 3+ years strong development experience and delivery history with Ruby language
2. Experience with Configuration Management tool such as Puppet and Puppet DSL
3. Full understanding of software development life cycle as well as related technologies
4. Sufficient domain expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities
5. Proven experience in cloud development (Google GCP, Microsoft Azure)

Nice-To-Have Skills:

1. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Groovy code development.
2. Awareness of design for scalable, enterprise-level software system (both on code and infrastructure levels).
3. Understanding of software release process (environments, binary repositories, CI/CD).
4. Attention to detail with high standards for quality.

1. Strong sense of accountability to deliver on commitments
2. Ability to solve ambiguous and typically novel problems that require team effort
3. Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; of specific importance is strong communication to a technical audience
4. Experience in delivering enterprise systems collaborating and driving solutions with multiple teams across the organization

Education:

1. Post-secondary education in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related IT field is an asset
