Scotiabank is looking for a Cloud Economics Senior Specialist to join our Cloud FinOps team in the Global Technology & Enterprise Platforms group, to help our internal stakeholders maximize value and achieve more with their cloud investments. The right candidate is experienced in Cloud or other technology financials, who can continuously develop, manage, and present Scotiabank’s cloud costs and impact, to various group leaders and business units. This role will be an integral part of our Cloud FinOps team, with a mandate to report on cloud financials and support optimization of our cloud investments and provide cloud financial expertise during budget and strategy cycles.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Responsible for financial reporting and creating insightful reports.
- Analyze monthly actuals against forecast projections with understanding and explanation of variances.
- Liaise with application teams and business lines on Cloud spend.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities, manage, and drive project initiatives to reduce cloud spend.
- Define guardrails to optimize cost performance.
- Work with Cloud Enterprise Architects and Solution Architects to optimize cost performance.
- Design forecast models and transparent reporting for business application owners on services consumption costs that will be charged back to the respective line of business.
- Provide financial oversight and management of Cloud operating budgets and effective cost recovery.
- Adhere to confidentiality and the Bank's risk appetite/culture in all day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Perform ad-hoc analyses and special projects as required.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in IT, finance, business or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret large data sets to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
- Strong financial analysis and financial modeling skills.
- Demonstrate an advanced proficiency in the use of MS Excel (e.g., macros, pivot tables) & MS PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of cloud-based platforms, preferably GCP.
- Willingness to research and self-study to keep technical skills relevant in a highly complex environment.
- Innovative and ability to think outside the box for creative problem solving.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines.
- Proven experience managing executive-level conversations on the business value of Cloud.
- Mentors and coaches colleagues and seeks opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Finance experience in public cloud cost management and optimization on AWS or GCP or Azure.
- Working knowledge in hybrid cloud or multi cloud infrastructure financial management or migration execution.
- FinOps certification is highly desired.
- Spanish fluency would be a nice to have.
