Compensation Range: $20.99 - $28.34

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the area supervisors, oversees and coordinates the flow of specimens throughout the laboratory. Provides technical supervision of section and is accountable for the professional conduct and technical performance of personnel within area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Holds staff accountable for accurate and timely completion of assigned activities. Ensures staff follow laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and security.
  • Monitors employee performance and department TAT’s. Investigates and reports suggestions for corrective action to operations and leadership.
  • Performs troubleshooting as needed, including missing samples and follow-up on problems. Assesses work processes and makes suggestions to supervisor for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.
  • Participates in QA initiatives. Collects shift data required for QA monitors. Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with operations coordinator and supervisors.
  • Completes action logs, preventative maintenance logs and pending lists daily.
  • Assumes responsibility for defining priorities during extraordinary situations, such as sick calls, safety and security incidents, emergency-“disaster” situations.
  • Works with supervisory team and laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the department.
  • Participates in evaluating employees. Discusses and documents any personnel issues with the appropriate supervisor.
  • Communicates policies and procedures and monitors compliance.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree and 1 year of laboratory experience required or
  • 2 years of college with a focus in Laboratory Science and technical training closely related to this position required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication, word processing and computer skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Ability to maintain professional discretion with confidential patient results required
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems, pay attention to details and handle frequent interruptions preferred
  • Ability to function effectively in a rapidly changing environment preferred
