Position Status: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week

Reports to: Manager, Mental Health, and Substance Use Programs
Wage - $22.25 - $29.96

Job Summary

The Clinical Support Worker (CSW) reports to the Program Manager and is a member of an integrated services team, combining clinical substance use, supportive housing, employment, educational, and other services. The CSW works with residents to provide assistance, support education and skill training and has the overall purpose of facilitating the stabilization, recovery, and capacity building of residents.

Responsibilities: Client Services

  • Participate in client intake and provide support services and assessment.
  • Support clients with their recovery care plans by maintaining accurate logging and documentation as required by the Society and other stakeholders.
  • Build a therapeutic relationship to support the client in their goals.
  • Support medication administration schedule and ensure accurate documentation for records.
  • Support proper reporting/documentation and collaboration for suspected alcohol or drug use; clients who are late for curfew and/or do not return home; escalating, unsafe behavior; emergency medical situations; client requests to go to the hospital; and power failures, fire, or other emergency conditions which require staff supervision or consultation.
  • Monitor and assess resident behaviors and client movement in and out of the building.
  • Lead or oversee client meetings as required for the program.
  • Report behaviors to management that pose a risk to the resident, other residents, staff, and/or the community.
  • Act as a positive role model for all residents. Promote effective social and interpersonal skills through tasks of healthy daily living and social activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining a therapeutic environment to encourage awareness of inter-dependence of community members, and the value of responsible concern for self and others.

Administration

  • Support administrative tasks including photocopying, case documentation, database entry, filing, and answering phones.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization.
  • Debrief with incoming shifts to ensure detailed transfer of information (e.g., concerns).
  • Support a safe, well-maintained, and healthy building environment.
  • Complete regular rounds of facility as scheduled throughout shifts.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in counselling, social work, community services, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience working with marginalized populations in the delivery of substance use services, mental health, or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds is required. Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required.
  • First Aid 1 and Current CPR certificate is required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using database management systems (e.g., electronic health records, enterprise resource planning, or customer relationship management).
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment, including telephone system, fax machine, photocopier, printer, etc.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
  • Ability to engage, facilitate, support, empower, and increase motivation for change; actively involving the residents in the change process and encouraging the resident to take responsibility for the outcomes they achieve.
  • Ability to form effective collaborative relationships with clients for the purpose of facilitating their success in a performance-based program.
  • Ability to perceive situational or other stressors, subtle changes in motivation that elevate risk, and act proactively to check in and bring the client back on track toward their goals using appropriate strategies, and prioritizing issues.
  • Ability to work in a trauma-informed framework. Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential.
