Job Summary and Requirements:

This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time Clinical Supervisor Communities(south) position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions. This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

The Clinical Supervisor Communities South reports to the Manager, Communities, Mental Wellness & Substance Use Services (MWSUS). The clinical supervisor communities south position oversees day-to-day operations of the quality clinical services delivered by a highly functioning interdisciplinary team of master’s level counsellors, bachelor’s level clinicians, mental health nurses, and support workers, based in multiple communities outside of Whitehorse. The supervisor works collaboratively with MWSU supervisors, managers and director to establish guidelines for practice based on emerging best practices in the field of mental health and substance use.

The successful individual will be skilled at engaging, leading and overseeing a geographically distanced team; observing, mentoring, coaching and evaluating practices to ensure a high quality of clinical care and create an inspired work environment. They will also engage in file audits and other quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

The supervisor works closely with the Health and Wellness Departments of local First Nation’s Governments and allied health partners such as the RCMP, Education, Yukon Hospital Corporation, physicians, Community Nursing, non-government organizations and community members to ensure wrap-around mental wellness services in communities outside of Whitehorse consider the needs of each community and First Nation.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience providing mental health and substance use services in a northern community.
  • Significant experience providing clinical supervision to front line service providers. Experience working with a remote team would be an asset.
  • Experience providing operational supervision in mental health care setting (e.g. program development, evaluation, quality improvement work, HR management, etc.).
  • Experience working collaboratively with First Nation Governments, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Human Resources processes such as recruitment, onboarding, employee development and performance management.

  • Sound ethical and innovative decision making and goal oriented.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of various mental health disorders.
  • Ability to provide effective clinical supervision and leadership.
  • Providing culturally sensitive programming.
  • Ability to support the public service to improve health care delivery through staff engagement, relationship building, community engagement, quality assurance and reconciliation.
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with communities, community partners and First Nations Governments.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or Equivalent.
  • Verification of Degree.
  • WHMIS 2015 (completed within 1-month of hire).
