A Day in the Life

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

As a Clinical Specialist, CathLab, Structural Heart, TAVI - West, you will support the clinical development and education, manage inventory and equipment, and customer education programs pertinent to Medtronic defined products and technology. Support the implementation of policies and procedures and participate in all facets of clinical and operational decision-making pertaining to the programs of the organizational unit. Train and educate investigators/customers on proper use of the Medtronic product and technology.

MAIN JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct on-site education and/or consulting.
  • Support field personnel in providing the best possible outcomes and service for Medtronic customers.
  • Partner with sales colleagues to develop and execute sales plans within one or more business unit(s).
  • Participate in conventions, forums, and meetings to increase product awareness.
  • Work closely with Clinical Lead, Clinical Management, and Regional Sales team to provide customer case and sales support.
  • Identify and facilitate execution on growth opportunities with Sales and Clinical Support Team.
  • Serve as a technical resource to support sales of a specific medical product or solution.
  • Report complaints and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR).
  • Provide leadership and direction in all aspects of the establishment, implementation, promotion, and administration of clinical education activities.
  • Develop and execute clinical education programs designed to enhance user competencies.
  • Cultivate close relationships with strategic business partners, including all training centers and opinion leaders.
  • Provide new employee training on products, technology, and materials.
  • Assist in developing objectives and programs for marketing and selling the Company’s products.
  • Provide nursing and/or medical expertise in the development, implementation, and case reports, journal articles, and clinical reports from clinicians.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate educational workshops and other programs, events, and activities.
  • Lead efforts to place speakers on podiums at key conferences.
  • Work with other departments to establish priorities for the Company direction, new product development, and customer satisfaction.
  • Document all clinical support and education.
  • Conduct Monthly Business Reviews with RSM & SPM.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Requires practical knowledge and demonstrated competence within job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. Requires a High School Diploma or GED AND a minimum 6 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, or; An Associate’s Degree AND a minimum 4 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, or; A Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 2 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, or; A Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a certificate program from a pacing school like ATI or PrepMD and 3 years of any prior professional experience.

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a certificate program from a pacing school like ATI or PrepMD.

JOB EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 6 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, with a High School Diploma or GED, or
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, with an Associate degree, or;
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in the healthcare or engineering field, with a bachelor’s degree, or;
  • Minimum 3 years of any prior professional experience, with a bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in a certificate program from a pacing school like ATI or PrepMD.

Background in Nursing Education would be beneficial.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare related Sales and/or Marketing experience.

Strong knowledge of the healthcare system (National, Provincial and/or Regional level).

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of adult education and communication principles and practices.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Desire to help others.
  • Composed under stress.
  • Strategic planning skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of nursing and/or medical principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical education methodologies and assessment instruments.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work assignments.
  • Working knowledge of conflict resolution and mediation principles and techniques.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • Bilingualism (Eastern posting only).

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel required for training, customer events, symposia, field activities and case coverage.
  • On-call and travelling after hours may be required for case coverage and/or field related activities.
  • Clinical Specialists are required to be within their assigned territory each day to be available as unscheduled needs arise.
  • CS’s are required to work a number of weekends and holidays during the quarter, as determined by local management.
  • Minimum travel of 50-60% of any given work week.
