Our team is growing, and we have a new opportunity for a senior leader with ten or more years of experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team that works to solve complex water quality issues for our clients throughout Western Canada. The position is in the Environmental Management team which has one of the largest risk assessment and toxicologist teams in BC and Yukon with more than 20 staff working in toxicology, risk assessment and environmental monitoring. What you can expect to do here:

  • You will be responsible for the implementation of water quality, sediment quality, and aquatic effects monitoring programs for multiple sectors in BC, and resource development projects throughout Western Canada and the North.
  • You are a senior leader excited to coach and develop project teams responsible for program design, data collection, assessment, and reporting.
  • You will provide leadership to project teams over the entire life cycle of a project and can point to a track record of success in the technical delivery of complex water quality and environmental effects monitoring projects.
  • You have a strong focus on quality assurance / quality control and can effectively oversee teams during data collection and reporting.
  • You are a critical thinker, solution-oriented and have strong communication skills to convey the scientific work to non-scientific audiences.
  • You can support the client in their regulatory and engagement efforts with Indigenous Groups, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Prepare technical reports and guide junior staff in how to prepare technical reports for submission to provincial and federal regulatory authorities.
  • Possess project management, coordination and planning skills to meet client timelines and budget.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • University education in environmental science, toxicology, or biological sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred, but a bachelor’s degree with significant work experience is considered equivalent to a graduate degree.
  • Professional Registration as a Registered Professional Biologist (College of Applied Biology of British Columbia) or eligible for professional registration.
  • You have 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • You have a positive and enthusiastic can-do attitude, and a willingness to share your knowledge to lead technical teams and mentor staff.
  • You are self-motivated, flexible and able to think outside the box.
  • You have clear and demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of the BC and CCME water quality guidelines, and their derivation, with the ability to apply that knowledge to water quality and sediment assessments.
  • You have a good understanding of the Environmental Assessment process in BC and experience in preparing regulatory submissions and presenting stakeholder information in open forums.
  • You have a clean Driver’s Abstract and are willing to travel on occasion.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $102,100 to $140,400

WSP Canada is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it will pay for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to the specific geographic location.
