Clean Transportation Program Manager

About the Role

Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. You will be joining a mission-oriented organization with solution-oriented team members who strive to improve our communities and environment. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, 4 weeks vacation, employee and family assistance plan, half-day Fridays between Canada Day and Labour Day and an RRSP matching program. Salary range is $70-$75K depending on experience. This role will be reporting to the Campaigns Director.

Purpose of the Role

Environmental Defence seeks a highly-committed and experienced Program Manager with knowledge of clean transportation, public transportation and zero-emissions vehicle policy. The program manager will be responsible for leading Environmental Defence’s efforts to help grow electric vehicle adoption in Canada and grow the mode share of public and active transportation. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with climate policy and project management. Experience in government relations, policy development and communications would be an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft policy submissions to the government on clean transportation, participate in briefings, committee hearings, and represent EDC in consultations and stakeholder meetings.
  • Engage in policy discussions and collaborate with allies supporting clean transportation policies in Canada.
  • Monitor the clean transportation policy landscape and stay up to date on new developments in Canada and relevant jurisdictions.
  • Research and write policy reports, blogs and media backgrounders on clean transportation files.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of government relations strategies and support in the development of strategies for communications and supporter engagement.
  • Develop relationships with civil servants, elected officials, and political staff relevant to clean transportation files at various levels of government.
  • Produce relevant communications-ready information that can be used for blogs, video, website text, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media content, reports.
  • Draft press releases, op-eds, and communications materials and act as a spokesperson for Environmental Defence.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and contractual agreements with external partners.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with climate and/or clean transportation legislation, regulation and policy.
  • A solid understanding of policy development and advocacy.
  • A demonstrated desire to affect change in public policy to enhance environmental protection and the public interest.

Location

This role will be a hybrid role, part time in the office and part time work from home. Toronto or Ottawa preferred.
