Work Location: This role is eligible for hybrid – this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (in Regina), on a scheduled rotation once probation requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Claims Analyst (CA) is responsible for specialized claims analytical work involving the application of claims practices, procedures, and systems to varied work requirements. The incumbent is responsible for internal and external data of established and new claims practices, manuals, and coverage wording, performing analysis, and providing recommendations for decision making. Improvements are identified and recommendations are made, and the position supports management in implementation and quality control.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Research and Analysis
- Gathers information/data and provides analytical, procedural, and documentation that supports applicable vendor management and partner strategies.
- Gathers, analyzes, and provides recommendations for specific requests made by SGI and SGI CANADA Claims management.
- Reviews and analyzes prepared statistics and other data to extract significant information and prepares concise summaries and/or comparisons.
- Builds presentations and other documentation (Power Point, Visio, Excel charts) to present findings to management team.
- Collects data through the return of prepared questionnaires and/or through interviews with internal and/or external persons.
- Conducts comprehensive partner onboarding reviews of claims procedures and assists in identifying potential solutions based on data to enhance the processes through a partnership.
Process Improvement
- Collaborates with Corporate Claims and/or leads research to support the design and development of new claims procedures, claims forms, wordings, or programs.
- Keeps up to date on competitors’ coverages and claims procedures and/or changes to the insurance industry to identify significant trends and recommends possible action.
- Assists Corporate Claims management in advising staff of changes that are being implemented through procedures, meetings, demonstrations, and training.
- Provides claims data to assist partners and operations on identifying opportunities to improve claims policies and standards.
Claims Project Support
- Leads meetings and presents data to management team and/or project teams to help determine how to move forward in presenting performance/rates to partners, operations, corporate claims, and/or industry.
- Provides support to corporate claims and partnerships projects.
- Collects data for maintaining, updating, and creating, corporate claims partnership documentation (privacy impact assessments (PIA’s), Decision Requests, RFP’s, RFSQ’s etc.), project plans, and other project-related documentation.
- Provides Corporate Claims management with data and facts to respond to internal and external inquiries relating to both SGI and SGI CANADA Claims.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures, reporting and reporting tools used in data analysis (e.g., financial, research and statistical).
- Skill in Excel (e.g., creating complex spreadsheets and reports using advanced functions, modeling data using Power Query and Power Pivot).
- Skill in data analytical and visualization tools like Power BI with proven skills in designing and developing interactive dashboards and reports.
- Writing and testing efficient SQL queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and analysis.
- Analytical skills with the ability to gather, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of claims coverages (auto, property and rehab) and benefits provided by the policy wordings, procedures and guidelines and related legislation within each region.
- Skill in the use of software programs used by Claims including GIS, Word, PowerPoint, Vibe, and Visio.
- Knowledge of insurance theory and the principles, practices, methods, and techniques related to the adjustment and settlement of claims (auto, property and rehab).
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business or Mathematics & Applied Science, or defined equivalency.
EXPERIENCE
- 3 - 5 years’ experience in an industry related field such as business analytics.
