AtkinsRéalis is looking for Junior, Intermediate and Senior Civil Engineer(s) to be a part of our team in supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation and refurbishment of existing CANDU nuclear power plants.
Location – Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Your role within the team:
- Develop conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design deliverables including calculations, layouts and sketches, drawings, technical specifications etc.
- Develop design plans, guides, manuals, and methodology.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Codes, Standards and Regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits and compliance with approved plans.
- Formulate, develop and apply advanced techniques and concepts in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Prepare/Review detailed design calculations and analysis for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry engineering as per the relevant CSA Standards and applicable codes.
- Compile engineering packages.
- Coordinate structural work with the work of other engineering disciplines.
- Perform design review or design verification on technical documents prepared by others.
- Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and completeness of engineering deliverables.
- Compliance with applicable QA procedures.
- Apply sound engineering principles to resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical guidance and engineering support for performing design and construction activities.
- Adhere to applicable code, standard and regulatory requirements.
- Support analysis of structural systems and elements as required using Analysis Software programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI and other structural programs.
- Assist supporting Engineers in day-to-day engineering activities and coordination.
- Prepare/Review technical specification documents.
- Accountable for delivering all engineering deliverables/tasks to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Assist the Team Lead for work plans and deliverables and ensure adequacy of scopes, budgets and schedules.
- Provide technical instructions to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals.
- Provide engineering input and support to Field Engineering groups as required.
- Obtain inputs as required from plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel and client engineering and scientific specialists in interfacing disciplines.
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.

The ideal candidate:
- Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with minimum of 1, 5 or 10 years (Jr., Intermediate and Sr. positions, respectively) of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings.
- Master’s degree and above is an asset.
- Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience.
- 3 to 5 years of site or field experience in Nuclear Power Plants and/or industrial buildings is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of the use of at least one Analysis software commonly used in Civil/Structural engineering such as StaadPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
- Must have experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mathcad.
- Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable Nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
- Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant.
- Engineering Change Control process or similar is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Must undertake assigned engineering work independently.
- Must be willing to work on multiple tasks/projects.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and analytical aptitude.
- Must have experience in working in a project environment.
- Must be willing to work in the field on assignment.
- Must have good skills in time management and setting priorities.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of NBCC, CSA and other applicable industry codes and standards is an asset.
- Self-motivated, and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work in an ever-changing environment with conflicting priorities.
- Ability to manage to work effectively under tight schedules and budgets.
