Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and talented Junior Civil Engineer to join our team in British Columbia. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting senior engineers in the design, planning, and construction of civil engineering projects, ensuring that each project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with a team under the guidance and direct supervision of the Engineer of Record to develop engineering products that meet quality standards, budgetary constraints, and project timelines.
  2. Prepare designs of municipal roads, water, sanitary, storm systems, drainage, and grading.
  3. Under direct supervision of a Senior Engineer, prepare design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D (plans, profiles, cross-sections, surface designs) for water, storm, and sanitary piping, roadways, and site grading, incorporating topographic surveys into the design and as-built surveys into record drawings.
  4. Perform calculations for water, storm, and sanitary systems under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer.
  5. Prepare specifications, contract documents, and construction cost estimates.
  6. Develop technical memorandums, reports, and proposals.
  7. Conduct construction site inspections and prepare corresponding reports.
  8. Develop proposals, including work plans, cost estimates, and schedules using MS Project.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

Experience:

  1. A minimum of 3+ years of experience in a civil engineering design role related to municipal roads, water, sanitary, storm systems, drainage, and grading. Newly Graduates will be considered for this position.
  2. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, EPA NET, EPA SWMM, Microsoft Office suite.

Technical Skills:

  1. Experience with civil engineering design including water network, sanitary collection planning, and construction inspection.
  2. Working knowledge of preparing contract documentation using MMCD or CCDC.
  3. Construction inspection capabilities and understanding of the testing procedures for different underground infrastructure.

Soft Skills:

  1. Excellent writing skills for the preparation of memorandums, technical reports, and proposals.
  2. Ability to work independently and with a team.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, subconsultants, contractors, and clients.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills.
  5. Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment.
  6. A commitment to continuous learning and skills improvement, with a drive to grow within the role.
  7. Commitment to Guide Engineering values and EGBC Code of Ethics.
  8. Other Requirements: Valid BC Class V Driver's License.
